Eligibility Criteria for African American Legacy Tour Sites (AALT)

Thank you for your interest in having your cultural heritage site included in Christiansburg Institute, Inc.'s (CI, Inc.) 'African American Legacy Tour (AALT)’. Please take a moment to carefully review the eligibility criteria below. 

  • Focus Primarily on African American History and Culture: The site should have a primary emphasis on African American history, culture, and contributions. This focus should be clearly demonstrated through its historical significance, programming, exhibits, or educational activities.

  • Location: Eligible sites must be located within the Southwest Virginia region, including but not limited to the New River Valley, Roanoke Valley, or neighboring areas

  • Historical and Cultural Significance: The site should have a documented historical or cultural significance that contributes to the understanding and preservation of African American heritage in Southwest Virginia. This could include sites related to key events, influential figures, historic institutions, or cultural traditions.

  • Public Accessibility: The site must be easily reachable by vehicle for public access.
