Born in 1944 and raised in Chicago, Illinois, Robert Henry Graham discovered his passion for art in the late '60s under the mentorship of Robin Leigh at "The BlackMan's" Art Gallery in San Francisco, California. In 1980, he earned his B.A. in Studio Art from California State University, Hayward, followed by an M.F.A. in Painting from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, in 1983.
Over the years, Robert Henry Graham has showcased his art in 78 solo, two-person, and 4-person exhibits, along with participation in more than 160 group exhibitions across the United States since 1968. Thomas Albright's "Art in the San Francisco Bay Area 1945-1980: An Illustrated History (1985)" recognizes him as Robert Henry in the art scene. His work, characterized by compositions with 40 to 70 layers of color on heavyweight gesso paper, spans multiple genres, including color-field paintings, cityscape silhouettes, symbols, forms, and figural/anatomical content. -
